Rental market in Canberra is it turning into Sydney frenzy?

Canberra realestate market has been protected from any sort of flattening out that has been seen in other states over recent months, so what is the secret and how can Canberra be plodding along through the global crisis and instead of cutting back the number of employees they are wanting to expand their business while other states are tightening their belts?
After looking into this more thoroughly, I found that while I thought Canberra was the Public Service Capital, in fact I was surprised that Canberra had more employment in the private sector.
Further research revealed that Canberra has an ever increasing need not only to house transfers from public servants transferring from Sydney and Melbourne but also from the Defence Force and International students that arrive in January and go University and then return home overseas for their holidays in November.

Not only is it a great place to live in Canberra with excellent employment opportunities in both the public and private sector, businesses are still struggling to get enough applicants for vacant positions that they have.

For the investor, this means that your property is getting top rent dollar always, along with the knowledge that it will never be untenanted for long if at all.  Also most people are willing to sign longer leases in order to rent where they want to live.

There is demand for all types of housing whether it be apartment style or a house for you and your family to the group housing that is much demand near the Universities and is commanding above average rent.
Other than having lots of employment opportunities why else would people move to Canberra?  After I have lived here over 2 decades, I have found it a great place to raise a family with fantastic medical and school facilities.

I like the fact that I can jump into my car in the morning and be at my work place in 20 minutes or I can drive from one side of town to the other in 30 minutes with no annoying traffic jams or delays.  Give me the clean air and the fact that I can ride my bike with kids in tow around the lake stop and have a picnic half way around and not have crowds of people having the same idea.

I love the fact that I have world class restaurants and let’s not forget our parliament house, war memorial, dinosaur museum, gold creek, cockington green just to note some of our tourist landmarks.

What about if it is winter what do I do?  You can either head to the snow or beach which in only 2 hours away.  Some people travel that distance every day just to go to work!
I love the freedom of being in a city one moment and in a 5 minute drive you can be in the bush, going for a walk.

As a place for investment you can’t go wrong, while other states have gone up and down with their rents Canberra has been steady.
Come for a weekend or a visit and stay, that is exactly what I did, and I have never looked back knowing how close I am to everything and I miss out on nothing here.

My quality of life since making the move has increased ten fold.
