Moves Guide
Canberra Real Estate Moves Guide – At last you finally did it! All of the weeks and months of planning are over and now you are in your new home. The hard part’s over…or is it? Many people focus exclusively on the front end of a move, because there is simply so much to do. However, it is important to keep the end in mind, too. Once you get to your new home you need to quickly get enough things in place to allow you and your family to function.
What are something of the things you will need to do as soon as you arrive in your new home?
Use the facilities
Having basic items such as toilet paper, towels, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo, and soap within easy reach is important. These are things you will need immediate access to when you arrive.
Cleaning supplies
Unpack cleansers, mops, brooms, cloths, garbage bags and cans right away. As you look through your new home, you can clean areas as needed.
Medication and basic first aid items
Locate these items right away, so that you are prepared in case of scrapes and bumps, pain and other medical needs.
Eat
Have snacks handy, such as granola bars or trail mix, along with cups, napkins, dishes and cutlery. Moving is thirsty work, and you will find yourself growing hungry quickly with all of the extra exertion.
Sleep
Moving day will take a lot out of you. Remember to set up sleeping places soon after you arrive. You may think you’ll still have lots of energy when you get to your new home, but you may tire out much faster than you think. Not being able to find pajamas, sheets, pillows and blankets when you are exhausted and stressed from a long day is frustrating. Set these things up soon, too, in case naps are needed.
Make phone calls
This is another very basic one, but you want to be able to make phone calls right away once you arrive.
Make notes
Have paper and pens handy to write things down. You will want to have these near your phone, as there will be numerous things you need to do and organize once you arrive.
Access supplies for children and pets
Your kids will want to have some toys or books at their disposal to keep them occupied. In addition, if you have moved with pets, you need find their food, bowls, and potty supplies quickly.
Those are the basic items you will need to unpack right away. After that focus on getting more clothes, dishes, towels, and bedding ready. This will allow you to function well as you get your new home set up. Remember, when you are first packing, make sure that you label boxes clearly so that they can be placed in the appropriate rooms as you arrive. As you move to or from Canberra ACT, keep this list in mind to minimize stress and keep you organized once you arrive in your new home.
